SACRAMENTO, Calif. - A California state senator hopes to pump up the lottery’s coffers by expanding prize offerings to include free gas. Democrat Dean Florez says in a letter Wednesday to the California Lottery that such an offer would entice more people to buy lottery tickets.

MIAMI — The Florida Lottery has announced its first set of winners for free gas prizes. The lottery held its inaugural “Summer Cash” drawing Wednesday. While one winning ticket was good for a $250,000 top prize, five other tickets won free gas for life — or $52,000 in cash if the winners prefer.
